# Drench Room > A planner for colour drenching - painting a room's walls, trim, doors, ceiling and built-ins in one hue. Pick a colour and enter the room: the browser computes the colour's family, value and approximate light reflectance value, a five-step tonal ladder, a daylight and warm-lamp check, an isometric view of the drenched room, every surface's area, the paint by can, the working hours and the room's flags - free. Then ask for a drench plan (full, tonal or partial, with a step and sheen per surface) or a job takeoff (cans, supplies, ordered steps, DIY or pro). Every reply cites the page's figures by id and is checked against them. URL: https://drench-room.skillsafe.ai/ API: https://drench-room.skillsafe.ai/api.html Built on the SkillSafe skills @jakubkrehel/better-colors (colour systems, palettes, format conversion, contrast) and @jmsktm/construction-estimator (material takeoffs, budgets and job planning). ## What runs free in the browser (drenchkit.js, room.js) - Colour: any hex colour -> OKLCH, a colour family (e.g. "muted green", "terracotta", "warm neutral"), a value class (light / mid / deep / very deep) and an approximate LRV (CIE Y x 100 from the screen colour). LRV from a screen is an estimate; test real paint. - Tonal ladder: the same hue at five steps (T-2, T-1, T0, T+1, T+2), 0.07 OKLCH lightness apart, chroma eased at the ends and clamped to the sRGB gamut. - Light check: a rough simulation of the colour in daylight for the window direction, at dusk, and under 2700K lamps. - Room: length, width and ceiling height in feet or metres, doors, windows, window direction, how light the walls are now, built-in area, coverage per gallon, an optional paint price. Openings use typical sizes (doors 3 x 6.8 ft, windows 3 x 4 ft, 4-inch trim), so areas are estimates. - Surfaces: walls, ceiling, trim, doors and built-ins each get a ladder step (or "out of the colour") and a sheen (flat, matte, eggshell, satin, semi-gloss), shown on an exploded isometric view of the room. - Paint takeoff: surfaces that share a step and sheen share a can; two coats; a tinted primer when the colour jumps two or more value classes; amounts rounded up to quarts, three quarts bumped to a gallon; litres shown. Hours per surface for one DIY painter (drying not counted) and a working-day estimate. - Flags: primer needed, tall or low ceiling, deep colour in a north-facing room, no daylight, semi-gloss walls, soft trim, vivid colour, five-plus gallons, walls-only, a long job. - Exports: Markdown, a shopping-list CSV, JSON and a printable job sheet. ## The two metered tasks (model gpt-terra) - `plan` - verdict `full` (every surface at the base colour), `tonal` (all in the hue, some stepped lighter or deeper) or `partial` (some surfaces kept out of the hue, never the walls); a step and sheen per surface with reasons; how the light shifts it; risks; styling tips. One click applies the plan to the room. - `takeoff` - verdict `diy_weekend`, `diy_multi_day` or `hire_pro`; the amount to buy per can; supplies; ordered steps (prep, primer, ceiling before walls, then trim and doors) with hours; a budget line that quotes the page's paint cost only when a price was entered. - Both: only the page's colours (no brands, no named paint colours, no invented hex codes), numbers only from the page, every line cites ids. `DrenchKit.reconcile` checks unknown ids, stray colours, missing or extra surfaces, a verdict that does not match the surfaces, semi-gloss walls, missing or short cans, walls painted before the ceiling, hours far from the page's estimate, a weekend verdict for a long job, and dollar figures with no price entered. ## Notes - Not affiliated with any paint maker; colours are plain hex values. - Areas, gallons, hours and costs are estimates; check the coverage on your can. - Saved rooms go to the signed-in user's own collection (`rooms`), only when they press save.
